Ranking total fighter/interceptor aircraft strength by country, from highest to lowest.
The Global Firepower ranking tracks aircraft elements dedicated to ground strike sorties as an offshoot of the Fighter/Interceptor Aircraft listing. These aircraft are specifically designed to attack ground targets by way of broader support for various air-to-ground munitions (for this reason the list excludes multi-role platforms).
Examples of such types considered by the GFP ranking includes the Russian Sukhoi Su-24 'Fencer', the American Lockheed Martin F-35 'Lightning II', oversized dedicated bomber forms such as the Boeing B-52, light strike solutions such as the Brazilian EMB-314 'Super Tucano', and specialized loitering platforms such as the AC-130 'Spectre'.
Data presented on this list is through 2021. Estimates are made when official data is not available.
