Ranking the total natural gas consumption by country, from highest to lowest.
Natural Gas became a proven 'weapon of war' in 2022 as Russia commenced its invasion of neighboring Ukraine and threatened Europe. For this reason, it is now included as part of the GFP index formula. For the purposes of the GFP ranking, natural gas consumption is applied as a penalty to each nation, the higher its consumption the worse effect on a theoretical war effort. Natural gas consumption can be offset by the natural gas production value and this is factored in along with a given nation's proven natural gas reserves.
Data presented on this list is through 2023. Values are presented in Cu.M (Cubic Meters).
