NATO Members
Founded in 1949, the NATO coalition continues to serve in a deterrence role today.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was established on April 4, 1949 during the post-World War 2 period and amidst a backdrop of a new rising threat in the East, the Soviet Union. Of the thirty-one countries currently making up the coalition, twenty-eight reside in Europe and three of the thirty are nuclear powers (United States, France, Britain). Only the United States is considered a Super Power by the modern interpretation.
NATO Member states as of April 2023 are: Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
