Coastal Patrol Craft act as a nation's last line of defense concerning attacks from the sea.

Coastal Patrol Boats are called upon to defend offshore waters from enemy incursions. During peacetime, this may include interception of incoming drug supplies while, during wartime, this would include defense of critical waterways that threaten shipping lanes. For the purposes of the GFP ranking, Coastal Patrol Craft include various weight classes as well as torpedo boats and are generally lightly armed compared to major surface warships though capable of countering vessels larger in size.


For the purposes of the GFP final ranking, landlocked nations are not penalized for the lack of a standing naval force. However, nations with a standing navy are penalized for lack of certain naval assets.
